PROJECT PROPOSAL
QUAK DESIGN proposes to research, design and refine the production of a Panoramic Solid Fuel Slow Combustion Heater and App for PECAN ENGINEERING PTY. LTD. To design a new product that can successfully emerge onto the marketplace it is paramount to conduct thorough research in all relevant areas to build a knowledge base for clever, coherent design. In the development of the Panoramic Solid Fuel Slow Combustion Heater, QUAK DESIGN will implement and explore a variety of research methods, concept generation techniques and product development processes - with the aim to deliver a resolved Panoramic Solid Fuel Slow Combustion Heater for PECAN ENGINEERING PTY. LTD.

RESEARCH
All products are unique and have their own set of complications and qwerks that make it special. In order to design a new product that can successfully emerge onto the marketplace it is paramount to conduct thorough research in all relevant areas to build a knowledge base for clever, coherent design.
In order to gain an understanding into the combustion heater industry a variety of research methods have been implemented and explored. These include: personas and scenarios, consumer needs and metrics, competitive benchmarking, legal assessment and environmental impacts. Key summarray points and the full report can be accessed below.
• Uncovering of Target Specifications and User Needs
• Stock hinge and locking mechanism options available on the market
• Illumination of usability issues
• Through Persona and Scenario creation we gained understanding of the types users involved with a wood heater
• Discovering free software available to create application concepts and visual
• Types of manufacturing processes and materials which are available and applicable
• Patents and standards that the heater design must be mindful of
• Modern aesthetic ques from interviews with interior designers

STYLING MOOD BOARDS
Two mood boards were developed to outline desirable styling cues. The first focus' on the beauty of fire, simple form and detailing. The second focus' on black metals, glass and contrasting materials.
IDEATION
Some preliminary sketching was conducted to develop mechanism and exterior proportions ideas.
CONCEPTS
Three concepts were presented to Client, Nectre, for review and analysis.
CONCEPTS SUMMARY
Elements for inclusion in the final concept.
PROTOTYPING
A basic prototype made from chip board was built for proportion testing and laser cut mechanism was attached to evaluate the mechanics for the upwards lifting door.
